Car Trip Sanity with a Tablet

Thursday, October 29th, 2015

tablet How many parents have purchased tablets strictly to enjoy a peaceful commute? If this describes you, don’t feel guilty. It isn’t bad to value your sanity and tablets are actually great for children if used properly. One shouldn’t discount the value of having time to decompress before or after work. Quiet time during any type of commute can allow children to focus on something that is good for them for a finite period of time and allows the adults that are with them to take time for themselves so they can be more present and engaged once they reach their destination.

The best part is this ‘guilty pleasure’ is actually good for children. The ways a tablet can be used to entertain and educate children has grown exponentially with each passing year. As the utility of these devices expand so does their popularity amongst parents. While many resisted at first, thinking they were hardly more than an upgraded portable DVD player, they have begun to be seen as education resources. Educational videos, interactive books, and learning apps for all ages have made the wide variety of tablets available very popular with parents. This is true for Apple and Android devices and while the tablets may be expensive some of the best apps and videos are entirely free.

Unfortunately, the devices themselves still range from affordable to relatively expensive. Because of this when a child drops the tablet, which they invariably will, and the screen shatters it can seem preposterous to consider spending even more money on a new device that will likely be dropped again. While it is almost impossible to prevent children from having accidents, it’s relatively simple to repair the cracked screen of most tablets.

Not only is repairing a tablet typically easy it is also far more affordable than replacing the device entirely. Parents may think that if the tablet is functional and only the image is affected then it simply isn’t important. Until that first long commute when the children can’t see all of the video they are watching or they aren’t able to play one of their games because the part of the screen they need isn’t visible. Instead of children sitting quietly and learning there is suddenly constant complaints and an ever increasing level of noise, turning the commute into a stressful situation instead of the peaceful oasis it was before.

Peace and sanity are valuable and definitely worth the cost of a repaired tablet screen.

Should You Buy Insurance for a Tablet?

Tuesday, August 4th, 2015

tablet repairWhen buying any type of electronics, you might at first think you should get insurance for it. However, you need to think twice on this before doing so. There are a few reasons not to get insurance on your electronics. First, think about the premium you have to pay. It could cost you more than the tablet. This is because they usually charge monthly fees plus you will have to pay a deductible if you need a repair job done on your tablet. This could cost more than the electronics you bought. Another reason not to get insurance is because if you never need it repaired, you are still paying the monthly fees for it and for nothing no matter what.

Other Options

The first thing you can do is if you are getting this for your child to go back to school with and the school is paying for it; ask them if there is some kind of warranty that comes with it. Sometimes, there will be a one or two year warranty on electronics from the manufacturer. However, if you neglect it or damage it yourself, the manufacturer warranty won’t cover it. So, be careful to not neglect or damage your electronics and this will work out for you.

You can also check if your homeowners insurance, if you have it, covers electronics too. Most homeowners insurance will cover loss or theft of everything in your home. If this is the case, you won’t need separate insurance for your electronics.

If your homeowners insurance currently doesn’t cover electronics, ask them if they can add them in with the rest of the items in your home. They should allow you to add electronics and this will be cheaper than actual insurance. Make sure that you let them know that it will be your child using the electronic and not you. You should also ask them if there is an excess on the policy if you do make a claim in case your child loses it or damages it and then consider the implications on that.

What many people do is just pay for a repair when there needs to be one. They actually save money this way because the repair often doesn’t cost as much as the deductible or monthly premium for insurance.

As you’re getting your child ready for school, don’t shy away from a tablet to help with his schoolwork. You don’t have to pay for insurance. If you look on our site, you can see that our tablet repair prices are affordable and make more sense when you need a repair versus having insurance.

Why It’s Better to Repair Your Device Sooner Than Later

Thursday, April 23rd, 2015

repair your deviceMany people will wait weeks or even months before they decide to repair their device. This goes for iPads, tablets, smartphones, and iPhones. While the reasoning makes sense, the device still works when there’s a function that working or there’s a crack on it, but the risk is not worth it.

What Happens When You Wait to Repair Your Device

When you continue to use your device after it’s not working right, you risk something else not working because of that. Most of the functions in a device work together to enable you to do what you need to do. When one doesn’t work, another function may have to work harder or ineffectively.

For example, when you have water damage. Your speaker may go out, but what you don’t see is that the water has hit other mechanisms. At first, everything works fine, but after a while, you find that your Home button may not work, and then the touchscreen. As you can see, the problem just exacerbates.

The same thing happens with cracked screens. At first, a simple cracked screen may only mean a simple digitizer replacement, but after a while and more damage to the device, the LCD needs to be replaced.

The Cost of Waiting

What this all boils down to is that the longer you wait, the more damage occurs, and then the more money you have to pay to get it fixed. Instead of causing your device more damage and having to pay more for a repair, just get it fixed when it has one problem. It may seem inconvenient, but you’ll be glad you did.

Call us or find the repair you need here. We have a fast turnaround time, use quality parts, and have affordable prices. We’ll help you get the repairs you need, so you can protect your device from any further damage.
