Moving along… We’ve seen an increase in broken MacBook and MacBook Pro unibody glass lately. Are people more reckless with their computers this time of year? Is it because school is starting back up and students are having their computers repaired before they are back on campus? Are people just more active during the summer months? I don’t have the answer, but we’re seeing a lot of these:
Although this kind of damage is pretty tragic for anyone who has it happen to them, it’s pretty much business as usual for the guys here at iResQ. Alright, I’m a little behind on the sporting news. But I’ve been so distracted by the madness, the chaos, the utter fiasco that this year’s Greatest Tournament in Professional Sports has been. Well maybe fiasco is a little dramatic. But it’s not far off. Let’s take a quick gander at what has transpired thus far: tourney favorites such as France, England, Spain and Germany have completely under-performed. The latter two will almost certainly make it to the next round anyway, but a win and a loss for two of the overall favorites is a bit of a shock. And France and England have all but completely imploded, all the while Beckham and Zidane watch helplessly from the sidelines.
Second, the disaster box that is World Cup officiating is being completely ignored by the superbly and ethically administrated FIFA organization. What, is the sarcasm too thick? Ok, ok. Most of the matches so far have had little to no referee controversy, and that should be noted. But the ones that have been mired in it are, as Alexi Lalas put it, a disgrace. From Brazil’s Kaka being ejected for his uncanny ability to break a player’s face by gently nudging his sternum, to Findley’s yellow card for hitting the ball with his head, to the crown jewel of referee scandal, the elusive Edu “it’s illegal to score the winning goal while your teammates are being assaulted in the box” foul. Let’s take another look, shall we?
Ridiculous.
Now this is not to say there haven’t been great moments. Despite the controversy, the USA rally to win, er, equalize after a 2-0 halftime deficit was exciting. And there have been beautiful goals, like Christiano Ronaldo’s neck stall from yesterday, which I could show you if FIFA wasn’t rampaging against copyrighted content on YouTube. Thanks again, FIFA. Lost and Found.

Like many of you out there, I love Lost. I love the complexly flawed characters, the heavy philosophical and literary references throughout, the often sappy dialogue and over-dramatized emotional sequences. So, like many of you out there, I was eagerly anticipating last night’s series finale. And now it’s all sinking in. I imagine there were a lot of theories about how it would end out there, and I hope some of you had the satisfaction of realizing you were right. Because I had a few that I thought were pretty solid, but very few of the details came to be. So it goes. I’ve been browsing the discussion threads this morning and I’m quite surprised to find a widespread unrest amongst fans. People seem to be vehemently turning their backs on the series they once called a friend and claiming that they wasted six years of their lives only to get no answers to the questions they’ve had. I thought it was fairly obvious that the events of the series were going to be left fairly wide open to interpretation. At least that’s the status quo that JJ Abrams and company have established over the last six years. A show that runs almost entirely on questions isn’t going to end with answers.
I admit when the screen flashed white and the credits rolled over shots of plane wreckage on the beach, I was pretty disappointed. I said, and I quote, “Huh.” But my disappointment wasn’t with the lack of answers, nor the surprise purgatory ending that fans seemed to view as a spiritual cop-out, but rather the messy pile of events in the parallel LAX storyline that didn’t seem to make sense in an afterlife-reality that the characters themselves created. But the more I process, the more it makes sense. Jack had no real relationship with his father, so he creates a son whom he can reconcile his parental shortcomings with. Desmond, in life, sought the approval of Penny’s father, Charles Widmore above nearly anything else, so in death he’s Widmore’s most valued and trusted employee. Even the island, which so mysteriously lay at the bottom of the Pacific for the entire final season, was put there by the minds of the characters who needed closure. Sure, the end was a little thick on the sentimental, but what else can you expect from a show that connected its audience to its characters so well over six years?
I still have to mention that it would have been a lot cooler had Desmond used his unique resistance to the powers of the island to turn into the anti-smoke monster and throw down with John Locke rather than just pulling and reseating a plug in a hole, but that’s a minor complaint from an excited fanboy. I think once fans get over the ambiguity of the island’s story they’ll recognize how tastefully the show’s writers let it die. I think. Of course some people will never be satisfied. I know. I’m a critic. Now, in honor of the last Lost, enjoy one of the best sequences between Jorge Garcia and Michael Emerson. It’s poetic, to be sure:

Good morning, and many salutations! A few exciting things happening around these parts. First, the Kansas State Wildcats are making their first Sweet 16 appearance since 1988. Huzzah. Things are a little bitter around here since iResQ is fully stocked with KU and Mizzou fans. Dang, that’s a lot of space. And if you’re running Snow Leopard, it will actually read as 1000GB, unlike previous operating systems that assumed 1MB = 1024KB. Remember when it was unfathomable that anyone would use a whole gigabyte of storage? When I was nine my dad brought our first PC home and I was astounded at the 40MB of memory and the 133MHz processor. And with that processing force I played Pong and Number Munchers for hours. Wow.
Still anxiously awaiting the delivery of your iPad? Try this to pass the time- whenever you send an email to a friend or coworker, sign it “Sent from my iPad.” I’ve had a few of my friends start raving jealously, which is always fun. Patience, Apple fans. It’s almost here.

Hello my blogofriends. Lots of exciting things happening around these parts in the sporting world. The Chiefs officially have one of the greatest pairs of Offensive/Defensive Coordinators in the history of the league since adding Romeo Crennel to the staff already improved by the signing of Charlie Weis. I’m not saying there’s another Patriots-esque dynasty coming, but it’s good news for those of us that haven’t had good news in a few years. Also, the ninth-ranked Wildcats of Kansas State took down the previously unbeaten Longhorns last night. Pow.
But onto Apple matters, it’s been as busy as ever as we turned the corner into 2010 here at iResQ. Just last week we repaired more MacBooks, MacBook Pros, MacBook Airs and Mac Minis than any week previous. And in the middle of ice and snow and an uncharacteristic six-day fog covering the whole city. Spooky.
