iPhone 5 Problems with Charging

iPhone / iPhone

Many people bought the iPhone 5 because they didn’t want to deal with issues of an aging iPhone 4S. Some of them were greeted with a problem that made them pretty aggravated because they couldn’t charge the phone’s battery completely.

When these people plug in the charger that came with the device, the phone would not charge. It was as if there was nothing plugged in. Sometimes, these people could wiggle the charger and it would start charging. It wasn’t too long before it would quit charging though.

There are reports of people tying rubber bands around the phone to keep the charger in one specific place to keep it charging until the battery was full. This seems like a lot of trouble to go through with a new phone.

Some people have said they went to Apple asking them to fix it, and they simply turned them away saying there was nothing wrong. Others told them they would need to pay for a battery replacement.

At iResQ, we want to make sure you can troubleshoot your phone fully before having to send it in for a repair. The following are some of the ways to determine if you need a battery replacement for an iPhone 5 or a dock connector (lightning connector) replacement.

  • Ask a friend if you can borrow his or her charger. Try to use it to see if that will work. If it will, it’s just a faulty charger, so all you need is to buy yourself a new one.
  • Look inside of dock connector. Do you see a part of the charger in it, specifically the pins from the charger? You’ll need a dock connector (lightning connector) replacement if so because there’s no way to remove the broken off part.
  • If the dock connector (lightning connector) is loose, you’ll need to replace it because it has become disconnected.
  • If you plug it in, and it seems as though it is charging (indicator shows charging), but the battery doesn’t charge completely, it’s likely you need a battery replacement.

Basically, if you use a different charger and it works, you don’t need a repair. If it doesn’t work, you do need a repair.
