The choice of phone you use may be indicative of your personality more than you think. Scientists recently found that Android users are much more humble, kinder and honest than their rivals – iPhone users.
In the study, people in two groups (iPhone users and Android users) completed a questionnaire. Each question related to their personality. iPhone users most often chose responses that weren’t as kind, humble and honest as Android users did.
In addition to the personality questionnaire, the research team analyzed the apps each user downloaded and used. There was a clear discrepancy between what iPhone users downloaded and what Android users did.
What’s interesting is that you would think more women who fall under the humble, kind, and honest category, but actually, they were more likely to own an Apple. Men are more like to have Android phones, and well, they fell into the group with people who are more humble, kind and honest.
In addition to these personality traits, it seems as though iPhone users are more extroverted as well. I guess that does make sense, since iPhone users do tend to talk a big game about their choice in smartphone.
It’s obvious our phones are a big part of us, and we’re going to make decisions based on our likes and dislikes with each type of phone. What do you believe is true of your smartphone as it relates to your personality? It is something interesting to consider, isn’t it?

Hello again everybodies. It’s that time of year again. Summer is fast approaching. Summer with a capital S, as in 5S, as in iPhone updates! Actually, that’s not likely to happen in June, but I had no where else to go with that motif. So, if iPhone updates are coming in September, what will we see in June? iPad news? Again, the iPad is practically driving Apple right now along with the iPhone, so it will probably warrant its own media event when there is big news to be had. So we’re probably looking at OSX, iOS and possibly Mac notebook updates this time around. Rumors include Retina displays on the MacBook Air, a new sleeker iOS with a touch of Jony Ives, and more ever-decreasing margins of difference between the mobile iOS juggernaut and it’s dying OSX counter part. Coverage starts in about a week and a half, so stay tuned for analysis. In case you missed the WWDC announcements today, here’s a brief review of what Cook and Co. revealed today about the new notebooks, OS and iOS:
Item 1. Siri has a sense of humor. The Conference apparently opened with a round of jokes from the automated robot lady iPhone voice.
Item 2. MacBook Airs got a nice speed bump that now ranges from 1.7GHz to 2.0GHz. Prices still start at $999.
Item 3. The MacBook Pro now has a RETINA DISPLAY! 220ppi, and a thinner display that translates to .71 in for the whole notebook. Huzzah!. It also has a faster Quad-core i5 or i7 processor, USB 2 and 3 ports on each side, and two thunderbolt ports! The only downside appears to be that the Retina Display model starts at $2199. All things considered, that’s actually a good value for all it does, but your average consumer isn’t going to put up that kind of scratch on a whim.
Item 4. Mountain Lion. Not being a fan of Lion so far, I can’t say I’m particularly excited about the slow and inevitable demise of the desktop format as we know it. Then again, Snow Leopard was a whole lot more streamlined than Leopard, so maybe OS 10.8 will be a big improvement over the awkward 10.7. For those of you who love Siri on your iPhone 4S (now 40% more hilarious!) may appreciate Dication, the new voice-recognition feature in Mountain Lion. Get ready to verbally Tweet everything you see!
Item 4b. Mountain Lion will be available in July and is only $19.99!
Item 5. iOS. Siri has been upgraded (did I mention she TELLS JOKES?) and now can give you more information than ever, including and expanded knowledge base of sports stats and restaurant and movie reviews. Maybe she can explain to me why so many people still like Donnie Darko. But I digress. Apple has also made the move into automotive technology by integrating Siri straight into the dashboard of your BMW, Mercedes, GM, Jaguar, Land Rover, Audi, Toyota, Honda or Chrysler. Oh, and also your iPad.
Item 6. Saving the
best reasonably anticipated for last, Facebook is built into iOS 6. For those of us who have maintained our wall of introverted resistance against Facebook, this is not news. But I’m excited for the rest of you.
Item 7. All sorts of updates on the phone App. Do Not Disturb mode, text auto-replies, and FaceTime over data. Win for personal communication, loss for car accident statistics
Item 8. Speaking of car accidents, iOS Maps now has turn by turn navigation and has been more or less completely rewritten to stick it to Google. It looks like they’ve somehow managed to take a step ahead of the incumbent Google in terms of 3D mapping. I haven’t seen any Apple streetview cars driving around though. Perhaps there’s more to come.

It is no surprise that Apple’s iPhone dominates the smartphone market this day and age. Take a look at the wonderful info-graphic below courtesy of Macrumors.com. It shows that Apple is ranked number two amongst all other vendors that are in the smart phone market. Although Samsung is number one on the list, they have a wide range of Android driven phones which prevents any one phone from dominating the market as opposed to Apple, which offers one iPhone (albeit with several yearly revisions of the device). This means that the iPhone can be considered the most popular smartphone on the market.
Kudos to Samsung, though, for providing such a wide variety of excellent smart phones. The Android OS has proven to be a worthy competitor to Apple’s iOS in such a hard market to dominate. Still, the presences of Apple near the top of this list is compelling. How long before you see Apple at number one? Will the iPhone 5 be the final push that takes Apple over the edge? If I had to place a bet, I would put all of my money on the iPhone 5 doing so.
With such a huge installed iPhone user base, iResQ is seeing more and more iPhones come in for repair. Believe it or not, the iPhone 3G S is still as popular as ever and we see tons of them come in for broken glass (or digitizer repairs). But when it comes down to the king of the castle, the iPhone 4S reigns supreme. This shows in our spike in iPhone 4S repairs lately.

Morning, friends. If any of you have been following Apple blogs over the last ten months or so, there has been a fair amount of hype/rumor/borderline panic about Apple’s push toward the dominance of mobile devices like the iPad and iPhone and therefore iOS, possibly at the expense of Mac OS and the desktop format as we know it. When columnist Dan Lyons first proposed the idea last June that the Mac brand was being euthanized, Steve Jobs wasn’t having it. Lyons published the following claim in Newsweek:
I hate to tell you this, but my guess is you’ve probably been sensing it already. I don’t know any good way to say it so let me just be blunt: You’ve been dropped. Dumped. It’s over. The future of Apple is no longer centered around the Macintosh. You Mac guys just got kicked to the curb, relegated to the steaming dung heap of the past. I’m sorry, dear old Mac, but your ex-boyfriend Steve has moved on.”
To which Jobs replied via email, “Completely wrong. Just wait.”
Fast forward to 2012 when dozens of columnists and tech bloggers have commented on the discontinuation of the MacBook (Apple’s best-selling computer of all time), the number of iPad sales vs computer sales (Mac and PC) and, perhaps most telling, the dropping of the Mac name from the OS line. As of 10.8 there doesn’t look to be a Mac OS and an iOS. Just OS. So with Jobs’ push to get the whole world running on the iPad (or whatever looms on the horizon?) it’s easy to see why so many Mac addicts are feeling unsettled.
Last week KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has been known to have seemingly-inside info on the development of Apple’s production process, reported that the 17″ MacBook Prowill be discontinued as Apple launches OS 10.8 Mountain Lion and prepares for back to school demand for new machines. Not that it doesn’t make some sense that they would put a cork in their largest and heaviest portable as the mobile market grows exponentially, but it does seem like if they keep killing off computers as we know them, Lyons’ claim isn’t “completely wrong.” 2012 will be a telling year in that regard. Let’s take a quick look at the introduction of the 17″ MacBook Pro’s predecessor, the 17″ PowerBook G4:
So is the consumer market ready for a monumental shift in how we use a desktop OS system? Thirty years ago a lot of users didn’t want to give up the command line for GUI, either. The future may not be certain, but it should be exciting. Stay tuned.
