Did You Buy the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8Plus?

If you bought an iPhone 8 or an iPhone 8 Plus when they was released earlier this fall, you’re a bit of an anomaly. In fact, many wonder if Apple made a huge mistake by releasing them just over a month ahead of the much-hyped iPhone X (pronounced iPhone 10—not “ex”).

It was back on September 22 that the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus drew minimal lines outside satellite stores, and it’s really no wonder. The television and internet ads for the iPhone X by that point had techies abuzz. And while many expected the price of the iPhone X would prevent sales, that simply wasn’t the case.

According to a recent report, Apple CEO Tim Cook and his team took a huge gamble, and they lost. Had they waited until after the first of the year to release the iPhone X, the iPhone 8 and the 8 Plus would likely have been hailed as “the ultimate evolution of iPhone design.” Instead, the iPhone 8 and the 8 Plus are presently viewed as a shiny new smartphone with some updated chips.

What does this mean for owners of the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus? Will it go the way of the iPhone 5C? Sources call the 5C a “dud,” and claim lackluster sales placed it in “pariah” status. While it’s unlikely the 8 and the 8 Plus will be labeled as pariahs (after all, they don’t have a plastic back), it could mean difficulties for owners when repairs are necessary. Some fear the trend will be to discourage repairs and urge upgrades to the iPhone X instead. Unfortunately not everyone wants or is in a position to shell out almost $1000 for a phone.

Theoretically, the iPhones 8 and 8 Plus have been sacrificed due to a lost gamble with the release of the iPhone X. This will result in a huge drop in iPhone sales at the end of the year, and experts fear even sales of the X won’t make up for that. After all, it’s now in short supply, and that’s expected to continue throughout the early part of 2018.

Meanwhile Google and Samsung are hyping up their advertising to target the iPhone 10. It will be interesting to compare their year-end numbers with Apple’s.

If you’ve purchased an iPhone8 or an iPhone 8 Plus and you’re running into glitches, a reputable repair service will keep you up and running. Talk with them about their expectations for the future of the phones. Seasoned repair professionals aren’t trying to sell you anything, and their expertise will typically save you money.
