Apple TV in Glorious HD. And iPad 3 Tidbits

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Ok, no one knows exactly what the third generation iPad is going be called, look like, or offer, but here’s what everyone is relatively certain about at this point. The new iPad will have an HD front facing camera for crisp high definition Facetime. The LCD will certainly borrow the iPhone 4 and 4S-quality Retina Display which is going to be nine inches of awesome resolution. And the design will be… pretty much the same. We’ve had iPad 3 components come through already in preparation of repairs, and we can confirm the changes are subtle. Nothing major to report in that arena. There is a suggestion that Siri may be coming to the iPad 3, which makes sense the way Apple has marketed the feature on the iPhone 4S. We’ll see if it’s ready shortly, or if we have to wait until iOS 6.

As Keith mentioned yesterday, the Apple TV continues to sell in record numbers, but rumors seem to point to a nice improvement with the next generation. All indications are that the next Apple TV will support 1080p and remain at the current price point of $99, so that’s great for those of you who haven’t explored the world of the Apple TV yet. There’s still some waiting to do for that Cinema Display-esque actual TV, but be patient. Steve Jobs apparently had much more Apple TV on the horizon. Just listen to what Walter Issacson has to say about his omission in his Steve Jobs biography. Skip to 57:20:

That’s all for now. The event is coming.

iPad HD and the new Apple TV

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

As we draw closer to tomorrow’s Apple media event more and more rumors seem to crop up.  Here are two tasty tidbits to consider: the iPad HD and a new Apple TV.  Before we delve into the deeper meanings of these two devices, let me lay your questions to rest, no matter what the new iPad is called, iPad 3, iPad 2S, iPad 4G, or the iPad HD, iResQ WILL offer repairs on it. iPad HD repairs? Check that. Let’s begin discussing the new iPad “HD”.

As we all expect, tomorrow Apple is going to introduce the new iPad.  Commonly heralded as the iPad 3, some sources, according to recent Gizmodo blogs, are claiming that the new iPad will be named the “iPad HD” in order to tout its new, hi-res  Retina Display.  From a marketing standpoint do you think this makes sense?  Why would you want to deviate from the normal naming convention of using numbers?  Will this confuse new customers?   Actually, it’s kind of silly to sit around and speculate the implications of what Apple is going to name the new iPad.  No matter what it is named, it is going to be the hottest tablet on the market. Let’s hope that the world’s shipping companies can keep up with the  demand. I have already read reports on Apple Insider that freight companies are feeling the pinch as the release of the iPad 3 draws closer.  Imagine that; gas prices may actually rise around the globe due to the release of a nominal Apple product. Yikes!

Finally, Apple TVs are going out of stock everywhere.  Do you want a new Apple TV? Here is my advice, wait until tomorrow. Apple is more than likely to announce a new version of the Apple TV alongside the new iPad during tomorrow’s event.

There’s not much time left.  Mass Effect 3 was released today, the new iPad HD and possibly a new Apple TV will be announced tomorrow.  This is a good week for us tech geeks.

One last thing, we are a little ways off from Apple announcing a new version of the MacBook Pro or MacBook Air.  So if you have a MacBook Pro with a cracked screen or a MacBook Air with a busted LCD screen, now is the time to get them fixed.

Later.

Don’t forget about the iPhone 4S

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

With all of this talk about the iPad 3, any news about the iPhone 4S and iOS 5.1 seems to have been eclipsed. Let’s remember that Apple is more than likely going to announce more than just the iPad 3.  This event is going to be big. We may hear something about the next iteration of the Apple TV, new Macbook Pro models, or even (gasp) the Apple TV!! Ok, maybe not the Apple TV but who knows?

Among the topics that Apple may discuss is iOS 5.1. Seeing iOS 5.1 in more detail is going to be great. There are many reasons to be excited about iOS 5.1. While iOS 5.1 may initially be available only for the iPad 3, rest assured, when its the iPhone 4S’ turn to receive the iOS 5.1 update, it will take full advantage of it. A more capable Siri? Yes please! Apple has done an amazing job updating its mobile platform with each iteration.

So before selling or throwing out that cracked or broken iPod Touch or iPhone 3G S, iResQ can repair it for you to get it ready for the new iOS. Remember, we just reduced prices on iPhone 4S repairs dramatically. iPhone 4S Screen repairs are at a record low of $99.

Fix your broken iPhone!!

Happy News Year.

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Well we’re a week into 2012 and there’s not a ton to report. Not news: it’s January and it’s cold. Actually in the midwest it hasn’t been that cold, but this morning’s twenty-six degrees was frigid enough. Also not news: The NFL playoffs kicked off this weekend. I think someone at NBC, CBS or FOX made a mistake because I couldn’t find the Chiefs anywhere on TV. I’ll have to try next week, I guess. Pseudo-news: the iPad 3 rumors are a’churning. Apple has a few media events coming up, so we can probably expect at least one of the following three announcements.

First, and perhaps most exciting for rural/smaller market Apple fans (I’m looking at you North Dakota), Apple should be unveiling their plans for installing Apple retail mini-stores within Target stores already in place similar to those running within Best Buy stores currently. This may not be a big deal for those of us who can stroll into the multiple Apple stores within our respective metro areas, but I’ve had countless conversations with customers who have driven two or more hours to browse before they buy a MacBook Pro, iPod or iPad. Journey no more, friends. A retail store is coming to a Target near you.

Second, Apple TV rumors. Actually, it’s probably still too soon to hear anything from Cook and Co. regarding the third generation of the Apple TV, which consumers are expecting to cast off its five year misnomer and be an actual TV. But you can keep the buzz alive until we do hear something official.

Third, the iPad 3(D?). Again, perhaps I’m wishing too soon. Though 3D technology isn’t yet at the point where it will be completely accessible to the masses on a portable device like the iPad, there should be some improvements from the beloved iPad 2. Most of what I’ve heard regards the cameras, both of which should be improved. It sounds like the iPad 2 will remain in stores at a discounted price point as well, much like the iPhones 4 and 4s. As always, stay tuned for more.

Have a great week everybody. Especially you, Broncos/Tebow fans. Shortest overtime in NFL history. Let’s take another look, I think:

Go Playoffs.

Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One:

Alec Baldwin walks onto an airplane…

I know — too easy. Most of you have probably heard about the American Airlines conflict yesterday when Alec Baldwin was kicked off a plane because he refused to turn his iPad off. If you haven’t seen the news yet, check it out here: Alec Baldwin latest celebrity to clash with airline

None of the articles I have read have confirmed what we all want to know: Did he have an iPad or iPad 2? Black or white? I know he was playing “Words with Friends” and tweeting, but that’s not enough info. We need details. I don’t know if Mr. Baldwin has dropped his iPad, but we’re ready to take care of him if he needs it.

That’s the only confirmed news I have for you today in the Apple world, and you didn’t come here for celebrity news or gossip so that will be the end of it.

Baldwin

Some random Thursday thoughts:

– The rumor mills are reporting that Apple is soon to release a line of televisions. I can’t wait to see how Apple changes that market next.
– Albert Pujols signed by the Angels. 🙁
– My college basketball team is in the top 10. 🙂
– The snow has started falling in KC, be careful out there!

Time to get back to work, thanks for reading!
