Memories, light the corner of my eye.
One quick thing before I start talking Apple news- The Kansas City Royals have the best pitcher in all of baseball. And the rest of staff is nothing to shake a stick at either. Not since Dan Quisenberry, Bret Saberhagen and Bud Black has our beloved franchise seen such balanced pitching. Sure, the Royals have started strong and collapsed by June before, but this year we have Greinke. And Soria. And Gil Meche and Kyle Davies and Brian Bannister. So let us enjoy this moment, at least until we make a run at the Wild Card spot and then likely lose miserably in the playoffs. Now I’m done.Speaking of nothing to shake a stick at, Apple has some app news that you in your mid to late twenties will probably get warm nostalgic fuzzies about. They’ve released the classic and mysterious puzzle thriller Myst for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Now, I’m no hardcore gamer by any limp, trip, or leap of the imagination, but I fondly remember staying up until nearly dawn when I was ten in a friend’s darkened basement allowing Myst’s eery soundtrack and suspenseful fragmented story to thoroughly freak us out and keep us sucked in. Now I totally empathize with my cousin who is ten years my senior and used to tell me that no game would ever be better than QBert.Sounds to me like it’s time for a coupon. Send me what you think was the greatest video game of your childhood or adolescence, and I’ll take $10 off your next MacBook or MacBook Pro repair. Email your answers to email@example.com in the month of May, along with your six-digit invoice or web confirmation number to ensure the discount is applied.
Sure, by today’s standards Myst looks archaic and uses the extremely primitive point-and-click-til-you-figure-out-what-to-do system, but I’m going to buy it anyway and get my nostalgia on. And for good measure, I’m gonna get a bowl of Froot Loops and watch cartoons. Ninja Turtles, here I come.
