iPad 3 Repairs
Another new iPad in for repair (Click to enlarge)

It’s been less than a week after the new third generation iPad was released and we have already seen quite a few of them come in for repair. I was expecting one or two here and there for the first week or two, but crazy enough, we have had A LOT of broken new iPads come in. To the right you will see one that we just received. This is the before picture of it showing the cracked glass. I’ll post the after pic later on after one of our techs fixes it. Let me tell you this, our techs are now officially experts on repairing the new third gen iPad. Each of them has had the chance to fix at least one of these new devices. From what I hear from the tech room, fixing these iPads is not all that different than fixing an iPad 2. A few minor nuances here and there, but it is mostly the same.

What do you think about this? Are you surprised that so many of these new iPads are breaking so quick?  Or is this all just a matter of numbers?  Apple has already said that the new iPad has sold more than any of its previous two installments in the past (limited to weekend release sales).  More new iPads out there increases the likelihood that we are going to see more broken screens.  I’m not too sure. I suspect this has something to do with the increase in weight between the iPad 2 and the newest iPad. It is heavier and I think this increases the chances of the screen breaking when it is dropped.

Check back later.  We’ll have more news for you.
