Are the iPhone 4S back cover fonts different?

General Knowledge / General Knowledge

Well, the iPhone 4S has only been out a mere 4 days now and we already have some in for repair. Upon examination of the iPhone 4S, we noticed something slightly different between the fonts on the glass backplates/back covers when comparing it to another iPhone 4S we have in our facility. It’s subtle, but take a look at the two backplates, both on identical 32GB iPhone 4S’s, (Click on the image to see in a higher resolution):

As you can kind of tell in the photo, the 32GB Black iPhone 4S on the left still has the manufacturer plastic on it. The same model, same size iPhone 4S on the right was delivered here in Olathe, KS on Friday, Oct. 14th (3 days ago) and was used over the weekend. It is known that neither of these phones have been messed with or modified as far as adding/removing parts.

This discrepancy in the print may not seem like a big deal, but it raises a question about Apple’s OEM parts being manufactured in different facilities. This also means that replacement parts may have some slight cosmetic variations.

Again, this is nothing too serious, we just thought this was a pretty interesting and eyebrow raising observation and thought we’d share the info with you.

Just for reference, here is an image of an iPhone 4 in the middle of the two iPhone 4S’s in the previous picture. The iPhone 4 appears to have the “thinner” or non-bold font:
